Pre-natal & Post-natal Pilates

The Pilates technique is ideal during pregnancy because it is delicate and effective. It centres on stabilisation of the vertebral column and strengthening the postural muscles, with a firm focus on the core and pelvic floor. Because the exercises increase the abdominal surface and lengthen the spine, this in turn will create more space for your growing baby.

Targeting the deep postural muscles not only provides an ideal preparation for pregnancy and delivery, but also plays an important part in retraining the muscles after birth. Pilates has been proven to aid faster post-natal recovery, restoring fitness and strengthening your body for its new role as a Mum.

With regular practice, you will develop stronger connections with your body and mind in a variety of ways:

  • Improved posture
  • Full and more effective breathing which will help during labour
  • Increased tone in arms, legs, buttocks and abdominals
  • Improved balance
  • More mobility in joints and flexibility in muscles
  • Improved stamina in preparation for labour
  • Improved circulation, preventing varicose veins
  • Better co-ordination
  • Aids digestion, assisting with prevention of constipation
  • Faster post-natal recovery
  • Improved sleep patterns
  • Increased energy & much more

Even short sessions will positively impact general health and wellbeing.

Pre-natal

A programme which teaches deep breathing without impacting the blood supply to your baby, using a harmonic technique that aims to lengthen muscles and also strengthen them without using vigorous or overly dynamic movements.

Pilates allows you to better control what happens to your body, but most importantly, helps you to feel happier and more confident in this “temporary body.”

Post-natal

Providing there are no complications, you can begin exercising after your six-week check.  In these sessions, we will focus on the pelvic floor muscles and pelvic floor stability, bringing in shoulder stability and strength work, ensuring you are strong enough to lift your growing baby. A little bit of cardio work too will help improve cardiovascular fitness.

I understand the time constraints and pressures of being a new mum and how difficult it can be to leave your new addition, which is why your baby is welcome too!
